Cabinet reshuffle: Statement on the Restructuring of Ministries and Ministerial portfolios
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate implementation of eight (8) transformative actions to propel the Administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency, they are as follows:
The dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to Ministry of Regional Development to monitor the activities of all Regional Development Commissions. The Regional Development Commissions now under the supervision of the new ministry are; the Niger Delta Development Commission, the South East Development Commission, the North East Development and the North West Development Commission.
The immediate dissolution of the Ministry of Sports Development and the transfer of its responsibilities to the National Sports Commission.
The appointment of Shehu Dikko as chairman of the National Sports Commission.
The appointment of Sunday Akin Dare as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
Merging of Federal Ministry of Tourism and Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture to become Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.
Ministers to be dismissed from the cabinet are: Barr. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Minister of Education).
New designate ministers appointed and their portfolios as follows; Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda (Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi (Minister of Labour & Employment), Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Minister of State, Foreign Affairs), Dr. Jumoke Oduwole (Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment), Idi Mukhtar Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development), Rt. Hon Yusuf Abdullahi Ata (Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development) and Suwaiba Said Ahmad (PhD) (Minister of State Education).
Subsequently, the President reassigned the portfolios of 10 ministers to different ministries, where he believed their skills and expertise would yield a better performance, they include:
Hon Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu from Minister of State, Education to Minister of State, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa from Minister of State, Health to Minister of Education, Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo from Minister of State, Water resources and Sanitation, to Minister of Works, Hon. Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh from Minister of Niger Delta Development to Minister of Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Minister of State, Steel Development to Minister of State, regional Development, Dr. Doris Uzoka Anite from Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment to Minister of State, Finance, Sen. John Owan Enoh from Minister of Sports Development to Minister of State Trade and Investment (Industry), Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim from Minister of State Police to Minister of Women Affairs, Ayodele Olawande from Minister of State for Youth Development to Minister for Youth Development and Dr. Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye from Minister of State, Environment to Minister of State, Health.
Since 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has committed to reviewing the performances of his ministers and removing those who do not meet the expectations of the Administration.
